THE LOG, SCRAP WOOD, HYDRO-DIPPED SPRAY PAINT
The Log is a sculpture which represents the culmination of a series of drawings and 3D experimentations originating from a small piece of log.
The original piece of log was used as an opportunity to study different angles. I drew the log six times at different perspectives and came to the realization that even though the drawings were all of the same log, it could appear as though they were of six different logs. Viewing the log from one perspective hid certain elements that were visible in another.
Given this observation, I made six study models inspired by the drawings that I had done. The study models varied from one another, even though they were derivative of the same original object.
Using what I had learned from the drawings and the process of making the study models, I made the final sculpture of The Log, whose only requirement was that it must delineate a space with a clear point of entry.
